SFGH: Fresh Cadaver Investigation of the Upper Quarter and Trunk w/ Carla Stecco
Course Description:
This course is a fascial anatomy overview related to the upper quarter. The major features of the superficial and deep fasciae will be presented. For the superficial fascia the focus will be its innervation and its relationship with the lymphatic system, superficial vessels, and adipose tissue. For the deep fasciae, the focus will be the relationship with the muscles, the myofascial junction and its role in pain and proprioception.
Course Objectives:
Objective 1: At the successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to describe the difference in function of the superficial and deep fascia and typical pathologies in the upper quarter.
Objective 2: At the successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to correctly list at 3 common compression sites for neurovascular structures in the upper trunk.
Objective 3: At the successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to identify the important layers of fascia in the upper trunk related to shoulder pain.
Course Outline, Agenda, and Format:
The course is a live course and will be broken down into the below sections:
8:30am-9:30am Carla Stecco lecture: Fascial anatomy overview; superficial fascia focus will be its innervation and its relationship with the lymphatic system, superficial vessels, and adipose tissue. For the deep fasciae, the focus will be the relationship with the muscles, the myofascial junction and its role in pain and proprioception
9:30am- 12:30pm Cadaveric dissection and investigation
12:30-1:30pm Lunch
1:30pm-2:45pm Carla Stecco Lecture: Fascia and nerves; the relationships between fasciae and nerves will be presented, with a focus specific on median nerve compression and Morton disease
2:45-4:00pm Cadaveric investigation
4:00pm-4:45pm Carla Stecco Lecture: Fascial anatomy of the trunk and upper limb and how this anatomy can help to understand the shoulder pain. Palpation refinement.
4:45pm-5:30pm Cadaveric dissection and investigation
